CHINA is celebrating its Expo 2020 Dubai National Day today with gala performances and a qipao fashion show, which are organized by Shenzhen and will be shown at the Jubilee Park and Al Wasl Plaza from morning till night.

The event’s opening ceremony, with the theme “To Build a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind: Innovation and Opportunity,” has invited top overseas Chinese artists, including globally renowned violinist Ning Feng, who will play a Chinese folktale-inspired violin solo of “Butterfly Lovers;” the German Guwufeiyang Percussion Group, who will perform Chinese drums; and the Xiaoyao Chinese Folk Music Group, who will stage folk music and opera performances.

At Al Wasl Plaza, the Global Qipao Gala with traditional Chinese attire illuminated by Misses Model of the World from all corners of the globe is expected to transform the plaza into a vibrant cultural stage and a crowd magnet.

It is the first time for Shenzhen to be tasked with arranging cultural shows for China’s national day ceremony at World Expos.

“From the time we received the assignment and started planning until today when the performances are about to take place, we only had over two months. The tight schedule and heavy impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have made the task much tougher. Nevertheless, the artists’ shows still give something people to look forward to,” said an event general coordinator who declined to be named.

These cultural activities are said to be a creative way to showcase traditional Chinese cultural heritage and at the same time promote Shenzhen’s internationalization, modernization, energy, charm and innovation.

“Shenzhen Day,” which is scheduled to be held from tomorrow to Thursday, will further highlight the city’s achievements in high-tech and manufacturing industries to the world.

The China Pavilion, named “Light of China,” is one of the largest pavilions and one of those that can receive the largest number of visitors at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The pavilion showcases China’s latest achievements in science, technology and sustainable development.

Expo 2020 Dubai, running from Oct. 1 to Mar. 31, is the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia regions.

It has gathered more than 200 participants from 192 countries, including multilateral organizations, businesses and educational establishments, for a visually striking and emotionally inspiring 182 days with up to 60 live events a day. (Shenzhen Daily)
