OVER 70 young scholars and researchers attended the Shenzhen University (SZU) Youth Scientists Forum at the university’s Yuehai campus Thursday. Around 40 of the participants are currently studying abroad, according to SZU.
SZU is committed to transforming itself into a world-class innovative university by mid-century. Talent is recognized as a crucial element in achieving this goal.
Gao Ying, director of the HR department at SZU, highlighted its policy of sponsoring researchers to attend significant overseas academic events, enabling them to promote the university internationally.
Gao also mentioned that the university has established a range of talent cultivation mechanisms.
Zhang Yatao, a current Ph.D. candidate at ETH Zurich, flew to Shenzhen to attend the forum. “I am very interested in this forum. This time for me is like returning to the campus because I once studied here for about one and a half years under an exchange program. After listening to presentations about the university, I learned about the rapid development of the university in recent years and its attractive policies formulated to draw young talent,” said Zhang.
Zhang, whose research focuses on the applications of AI in urban design, expressed his intention to join SZU’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning after graduation. He added that the city’s proximity to Hong Kong is also an advantage that facilitates research and academic exchanges.
To help young participants better understand the university, SZU also invited relevant departments to the forum in a bid to allow the participants to engage in direct communication with faculty members.
Shenzhen has made significant efforts to attract top global talent. The city now boasts a talent pool of over 7 million individuals, including more than 26,000 high-end professionals and over 200,000 returnees from overseas, according to the forum.
Following the forum, the participants also visited Shenzhen-based tech giant Tencent’s headquarters and Shenzhen Talent Park in Nanshan District. (Shenzhen Daily)
