THE 2nd Frontier Tech Innovation Forum, held yesterday at the Shenzhen Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, revealed 13 digital technology application trends anticipated for 2025.
The trends, unveiled by the Tencent Research Institute, include the maturation of high-performance computing, technologies that augment human capabilities, increased reliability of large language models (LLMs), and multimodal computing that enables intelligent robots to sense human emotions.
The forum, themed “Sensing Tomorrow,” brought together officials, renowned experts and scholars, and enterprise executives to explore ways to advance the integration of industry and research.
“The first step to creating the future is to predict its trends,” Liu Moxian, deputy director of the Frontier Tech Research Center at the Tencent Research Institute, said at the forum. “We hope to provide long-term predictions to guide the exploration of frontier digital technology.”
He also mentioned that the software industry would undergo significant changes due to advancements in big data technologies. AI applications are expected to be innovatively and widely used in education, while intelligent doctors and digital medicine will become a reality. Data-driven agricultural breeding will positively impact farming practices and help farmers improve their methods.
Cao Zhongxiong, assistant president of the Shenzhen-based China Development Institute, shared insights into the future development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in the era of big models. He said Shenzhen, with companies like Huawei and Tencent which are advancing their own models, should be developed into a “big model” city within the GBA to lead industrial development.
“Shenzhen has formed a cluster for model development, and there will be large application scenarios in the city as big models are essential for a lot of tech companies,” said Cao. (Shenzhen Daily)
