EXPERTS and enthusiasts from various fields recently gathered at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) for its third “NAUKA 0+” Science and Culture Festival, which kicked off at the university’s Longgang campus Friday.

Themed “Science Around Us” this year, the festival aimed to create a shared “scientific feast” for participants through diverse activities such as lectures, master classes, science performances, themed exhibitions, and science knowledge competitions.

Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, mentioned that SMBU launched the science festival in 2022 to provide a platform for communication and exchanges between China and Russia, as well as young people of the two countries. The festival will continuously promote the development of Sino-Russian cooperation in education, science, technology, and culture and facilitate deeper and broader collaboration.

Victor Antonovich Sadovnichy, rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), conveyed via video link that the festival, with the participation of researchers from MSU, would be an unforgettable experience.

In a congratulatory letter, Dmitry Chernyshenko, deputy prime minister of Russia, expressed his belief that the science and culture festival would build another bridge between the two countries and enhance mutual understanding.

Cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, who attended the festival in Shenzhen, expressed his desire to engage more with students. Through the festival, he sought not only to share his experience in space but also to learn about the enduring friendship between China and Russia.

The word “NAUKA” is Russian for “science,” and “0+” signifies that the festival is designed to appeal to all age groups. The festival, which concluded yesterday, was open to the public free of charge. A Shenzhen resident named Li brought her child to the campus Saturday and expressed appreciation for the university’s public engagement. (Shenzhen Daily)
