SHENZHEN Port’s container throughput reached 6.48 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) between January and March, data from the municipal transport bureau showed recently.
Its throughput included 6.12 million TEUs for foreign trade, 365,900 TEUs for domestic trade and 63,900 TEUs by rail-river joint operation mode.
The port’s cargo throughput reached 59.68 million tons in the first three months of the year, consisting of 47 million tons for foreign trade and 12.64 million tons for domestic trade, the bureau said.
To ensure the global supply, Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) opened three container routes with the U.S. and Canada between March 27 and April 10.
The three routes are the TransPacific-U.S. East TP28 route and upgraded TP20 route operated by Maersk, the Zim North Pacific (ZNP) Canada route and ZIM Ecommerce Baltimore Express (ZXB) route operated by Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.
So far this year, YICT has opened seven international container shipping routes.
On April 8, the marine route between Yantian and Hong Kong, offering supplies to Hong Kong, created a record handling 8,242 tons of freight in 1,374 TEUs. (Shenzhen Daily)
