AN all-cargo flight left Shenzhen early yesterday morning, carrying 88 tons of freight to Doha, capital city of Qatar, marking the official opening of the weekly air freight route operated by Qatar Airways.
So far, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport handles two freight routes to two major hubs in the Middle East, namely Dubai and Doha. The airport has also increased its flights to seven a week.
“In April, we will add about 30 flights from Shenzhen to major cities in Europe, the U.S., Asia and the Asia-Pacific regions to ensure the exports of Shenzhen-made products,” Tang Lei, vice manager of Shenzhen Airport Logistics Development Co. Ltd., said in an interview yesterday.
Due to the resurgence of COVID cases in the past month, local exporters are facing logistics challenges. Under the recently released relief measures by the Shenzhen government, airline companies that have regular domestic passenger routes can receive a 5-million-yuan (US$785,078) subsidy per route. Those opening new regular freight routes can receive up to 70 million yuan per route.
As of March this year, the Shenzhen airport had opened an all-freight route to Hanoi in Vietnam and intensified cargo transportation on routes to Ho Chi Minh City, Los Angeles, Osaka and Seoul. Cargo flights departing from Shenzhen can now reach 35 cities in the world, ensuring stable industrial and supply chains. (Shenzhen Daily)
