A SIX-MINUTE film “Shenzhen’s Steps” dedicated to attracting talented people across the world was launched on major local media on the first day of the new year.
The city will introduce new policies for attracting talented people soon after the release of the promotional film, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.
Shenzhen will further open up to the outside world, and place more emphasis on its alignment with international practices in terms of recruitment and use of talents, according to the city’s talent affairs bureau.
The new policies will highlight the role of employers and the market incentives, so as to shift from “attracting talent with preferential policies” to “gathering talent by means of an appealing cultural environment.” In such a way, the city will create the Shenzhen model in the attraction and use of global talent, thus providing strong support for its further development.
The expected new talent policies are to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech delivered at the celebration marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone which was held last October. Xi put forward new requirements for the talent work of the city at the meeting.
As a young city, Shenzhen has constantly adjusted and improved its talent policies. It has attracted significant numbers of domestic talent from other parts of the country in the early days after the city’s establishment, witnessed a large influx of overseas talent at the beginning of the 1990s, and gathered top-notch talent worldwide in the new century.
As of now, the city boasts more than 6 million talented people, including 54 full-time academicians, nearly 18,000 high-level talent and over 150,000 returned overseas students. (Shenzhen Daily)
