OVER 20 Shenzhen companies took center stage at the AI EXPO TOKYO — Japan’s largest trade show for artificial intelligence (AI) tech companies to introduce their innovations to a wide range of industries — last month. Organized by the Shenzhen Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT Shenzhen), the firms unveiled their state-of-the-art AI technologies and solutions. Among the highlights were Orbbec’s latest 3D cameras and visual systems, which are renowned for their exceptional precision, speed, and stability. Kim Dai Intelligent Innovation Technology Co. Ltd. introduced AI Box, a highly intelligent virtual robot designed for interactive experiences. Leishen Intelligent System Co. showcased a high-precision, high-reliability, long-range laser detection radar. Pudu Robotics presented its innovative meal delivery and disinfection robots. During the expo, CCPIT Shenzhen also hosted the China (Shenzhen)-Japan (Tokyo) Artificial Intelligence Industry Cooperation and Exchange Conference. Shenzhen firms and researchers engaged with their Japanese counterparts in dialogue that explored future trends and potential collaboration opportunities in the AI industry. This conference served as a platform for mutual learning and the establishment of strategic partnerships, thereby fostering a collaborative environment that promises to drive advancements in AI technology. Gathering resources The expo was just one of many international events that CCPIT Shenzhen organized Shenzhen firms’ participation in this year. For the 2024 Vietnam International Consumer Electronics and Household Appliances Exhibition, CCPIT Shenzhen organized the attendance of 109 Shenzhen-based firms that exhibited premium consumer electronics and home appliances. The exhibition was held in Ho Chi Minh City from May 23 to 25. “In the coming months, we will organize the participation of companies in nearly 20 renowned domestic and international professional exhibitions, including the Russia International Consumer Electronics and Home Appliance Expo, the Brazil International Battery Energy Storage Exhibition, and the Smart City Expo World Congress in Spain,” said Tang Jin, deputy director of CCPIT Shenzhen, during a news conference organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office on Friday. CCPIT Shenzhen is committed to promoting local brands and products through the Shenzhen Products Global Tour series, leveraging its 11 overseas liaison offices in Belt and Road Initiative partner countries and product display centers. In 2023, the committee successfully organized the participation of 700 local enterprises in the tour, and those firms secured deals worth 2.4 billion yuan (US$331 million). The committee is currently preparing for the 2025 Osaka World Expo and plans to organize a series of exchange activities to display Shenzhen’s dynamic innovation in various sectors including technology, economy, and culture. “Our goal is to foster international trade and elevate the international profile of Shenzhen’s firms and industries,” Tang said. Enhancing presence According to data from Shenzhen Customs, Shenzhen’s foreign trade reached 1.41 trillion yuan between January and April this year, an increase of 31.8% year on year. Broken down, exports amounted to 893.32 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.9%, and imports reached 517.26 billion yuan, up 28.4% year on year. “Shenzhen firms are actively involved in global industrial cooperation. A total of 10,000 firms and institutions had established themselves in more than 140 countries and regions by the first quarter of this year,” said Chi Weiguo, deputy director of the city’s commerce bureau, at Friday’s news conference. While presenting a government work report to the city’s legislature earlier this year, Mayor Qin Weizhong outlined a strategic plan to amplify Shenzhen’s international market presence that involves integrating more of the city’s core technologies, key products, standards, services, and brands into the global industrial and supply chains. Shenzhen’s burgeoning cross-border e-commerce sector has put a spotlight on the city’s established industries, prompting global interest in Shenzhen’s eyewear, clothing, furniture, gold jewelry, and watches. Local firms have capitalized on this trend by reinforcing their international market reach with the establishment of over 100 independent brand stores and 350 overseas warehouses that cover a total area of 3.8 million square meters.
