Virus nucleic acid degradation disinfectant to hit the market

2022-05-25

A NOVEL coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid degradation disinfectant, collaboratively developed by a Shenzhen company, a health institution and a university, is prepared to hit the market.

The low-cost disinfectant project was carried out by FORIGIN, a Shenzhen-based company focused on eco-friendly technologies, the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Shenzhen University.

“While completely killing the virus, the disinfectant can fully degrade the virus’s nucleic acid fragments, eliminating problems caused by ‘virus fragments’ in nucleic acid tests,” Wang Wenzhao, chairman of FORIGIN, told Shenzhen Economic Daily on Monday.

According to Wang, the project has progressed to its preliminary product launch preparation stage, with technical research and development essentially completed.

The disinfectant project, inspired by sewage treatment process and disinfection, is also one of the second batch of projects under Shenzhen’s scientific and technological anti-epidemic special program in 2022.

Since the special program’s launch last year, Shenzhen has initiated several batches of project applications to better leverage science and technology in normalized epidemic prevention and control.

On Friday, the application guide for the program’s fourth batch of projects in 2022 was released, with a total of 27 topics proposed.

The topics cover medical biotechnology, equipment and special medical software, environmental monitoring and emergency treatment technology for environmental accidents, robots, and biomedical materials.

Among the fourth batch of projects, a clinical development project on anti-coronavirus small-molecule drugs targeting RNA polymerase has attracted a lot of attention, the Daily reported.
