LUOHU traffic police will designate more restrictive zones next to pedestrian crossings to prevent vehicles from entering and ensure pedestrian and driver safety.
The restrictive zones, about 5-7 meters wide and has a stepped pattern, separate pedestrian crossings and vehicle stop lines.
It guarantees drivers could see pedestrians or bikers on the crossings who are otherwise blocked from the driver’s view by other vehicles on the neighboring lanes, therefore reducing accidents.
Also, traffic police will designate more restrictive zones on the roads around construction sites, logistics parks and passages loaded with heavy vehicles, and will install road signs reminding truck drivers to yield to pedestrians when turning right.
Such yellow-grid restrictive zones have been designated at some crossings on Yijing, Bao’an South and Xinxiu roads. Vehicles must slow down and stop in front of the restrictive zones and keep a safe distance from the crossing.
So far, Luohu District has completed restrictive zones at 29 crossings; at the same time, it has also installed 21 sets of signs directing heavy vehicles to yield to pedestrians when turning right at 18 intersections. (Shenzhen Daily)
