THE Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link, a passage that links Shenzhen and Zhuhai on the east and west banks of the Pearl River, respectively, will serve dual functions as a passage for intercity and high-speed railways, according to Zhuhai’s construction plan for major projects issued by the city’s authority recently.
Aside from railway functions, the link will also serve as a highway.
Upon completion, the link will cut the trip between Shenzhen and Zhuhai to 30 minutes.
According to the Construction Plan for Major Projects in 2022 in Zhuhai issued by the Zhuhai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai High-speed Railway terminates at Xili Station in Shenzhen and Zhuhai Central Station in Zhuhai, passing by Zhuhai North Station in the city’s high-tech area. The 80.7-kilometer high-speed railway is designed with a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Intercity Railway terminates in Qianhai in Shenzhen and the Houhuan area in Zhuhai. The 40-kilometer intercity railway will link with Zhuhai-Jiangmen Intercity Railway and Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway. It is designed with a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
The programs for the Shenzhen-Zhuhai intercity and high-speed railways are budgeted at 40.8 billion yuan (US$6.17 billion).
As per the plan, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link’s terminal at the Houhuan area in Tangjia Hi-Tech Park is being built into a demonstration area for Shenzhen and Zhuhai cooperation zone with an industrial scale aimed to reach 100 billion yuan. The 6.63-square-kilometer area designed by the Shenzhen Institute of Building Research will preserve the natural and coastal environment to the maximum. It will also be an intelligent model area showing the coexistence of the sea and urban life jointly built by the two cities.
The link will connect to the Shenzhen-Shanwei High-speed Railway at Xili Station, have a stop in Qianhai and go under the Pearl River to connect Shenzhen and Zhuhai. (Shenzhen Daily)
