Residents surprisingly noticed the peach flowers in Lianhua Hill Park in Futian are blooming. Experts suggested this is mainly because of the changing weather, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

Experts also note that due to weather changes, some plants would experience hormone disorders which cause a second blooming in the year.

However, the blossoms are less likely to bear fruit and the second blooming will also impact next year’s blooms.

A senior citizen surnamed Luo told the News that the peach flowers were already in bloom for a few days. “I live nearby so I frequent the park. I like to take photos of the plants in the park and search information about them,” said Luo. “Temperatures in southern areas are relatively high. Thus, there are two blooming seasons for some plants when there is enough sunlight,” he added.

Plum blossoms were also seen blooming in a plum park near Antuo Hill. The park’s staff told the News that due to recent high temperatures, some plum flowers are blooming.

Cheery and magnolia flowers can also have one more blooming season when temperature allows, according to Liu Lei, a plant lover.

Peach blossoms are commonly seen in North China between March and April, while the flowers bloom January and February in Shenzhen. The flowering season is affected by different environments and altitudes, according to Wang Xiaoyun, the city’s nature ambassador.

Wang said that the city’s climate this year is bit abnormal. Dry days in the first half of the year caused serious plant diseases and pests.

“Many roadside leaves were eaten up by insects while the heavy rains seen in the second half caused roots to rot. All these factors brought in hormone disorders in some plants. When the temperature is higher, trees easily sprout and bloom again,” said Wang.
