THE 450-meter-long aerial footbridge linking Bijia Hill Park and UpperHills was recently opened to public, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Upon operation, the whole aerial corridor, offering seamless connection between Lianhua and Bijia hills in Futian CBD, extends to about 1,000 meters long.

The corridor spans three urban roads namely Huanggang, Lianhua and Caitian roads in Futian District’s Caitian area. It will take about 10 minutes to walk between Lianhua Hill and Bijia Hill parks via the corridor. Huanggang and Caitian roads, which link Futian CBD to Longhua District, often see heavy rush-hour traffic.

The aerial corridor consists of two parts – the 450-meter-long bridge over Huanggang Road and the section over Caitian Road. The corridor’s two steel sections are linked with UpperHills, a large urban complex integrating apartment buildings, hotels and shopping centers in the middle.

“The corridor provides a lot of convenience. We can go shopping along the corridor and exercise at two parks, without worrying about heavy traffic on the roads,” a resident surnamed Zhang said.

The aerial corridors’ construction is one way that Futian District Urban Rejuvenation Bureau is using to improve urban landscaping and separate vehicle and pedestrian flows as ground traffic in the CBD area becomes more saturated.

“The corridor itself is a place for sightseeing and leisure. The construction of the corridor is a good way to construct a city of parks or park clusters,” said Liang Zhiyu, deputy director of Shenzhen Park Service Center. (Shenzhen Daily)
